The research was published through American Heart Association (AHA). Experts in the study conducted long-term data analysis, dating back to 1990. The data showed that consuming more than 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil per day reduced the risk of heart disease by 15 percent, and the risk of coronary heart disease by 21 percent.

Benefits of Olive Oil for Heart Health

Foods made from animal fats such as margarine, butter, full-fat milk, and mayonnaise are less healthy than olive oil, especially for heart health. However, several other studies have found some evidence that extra virgin olive oil has a higher content of polyphenols. Polyphenols are good for lowering lipids or fats and inflammation.

While replacing animal oils with vegetable or olive oil is an important step for improving heart health, it’s not the only factor.
