An expert at the laboratory of Wuhan, China, namely Shi Zhengli warned the world that a more deadly variant of the Covid-19 virus would emerge.
Shi is a scientist who discovered dozens of types of corona virus in bat caves, so he was dubbed the “bat woman”.
Shi Zhengli was the person who first revealed the existence of the SARS-Cov-2 virus at the end of 2019 and finally became the Covid-19 pandemic as it is now.
Shi said the mutation of the corona virus makes the world potentially attacked by other, more dangerous variants, one of which is the Delta variant.
“Because the number of infection cases is too large, it allows the corona to mutate. New variants will continue to emerge,” Shi Zhengli was quoted as saying by the People’s Daily.
Shi said that the world community should start preparing to coexist with the virus in the long term and urged people to be vaccinated immediately.
“We shouldn’t panic, but we need to be prepared to coexist with the virus in the long term,” he said.
Shi’s statement is in response to the circulation of the latest variant of Covid-19 which is very life threatening. However, Shi had previously denied that the coronavirus had leaked from his laboratory in Wuhan.
“My lab has never done any gain-of-function studies that can increase viral capacity,” he told the New York Times.
