1. First Trimester

If you urinate frequently in the first trimester of pregnancy, it is because the pregnancy hormones hCG and progesterone have increased. These hormones increase blood flow to the pelvic area and make the kidneys work more so that urine production becomes excessive.

2. Second Trimester

Entering the second trimester, the urgency to urinate may decrease slightly. However, the frequency of urination can increase as the baby develops in the womb. This could be due to the increased pressure exerted by the uterus on the bladder.

3. Third Trimester

After the baby descends into the pelvis towards the third trimester, the bladder may be under more pressure from the uterus. Pregnant women can go to the bathroom more often to urinate, the frequency even increases than before.

Tips for Overcoming Frequent Urination During Pregnancy

1. Lean forward when urinating

So that you don’t urinate too often, when it’s time to pee, try to lean forward when urinating. This is done so that the bladder empty quickly.

2. Drink more during the day

Try to drink more water during the day to reduce the frequency of urination at night. Drinking more fluids before bed can actually cause you to urinate more often at night.

3. Avoid caffeinated drinks

Mums, avoid caffeinated drinks and foods because they can increase your desire to urinate.

4. Drink lots of water so that the urine is not dark

Drink plenty of water if your urine is dark yellow. That could be a sign you’re dehydrated, Mums. Increase the fluids you drink so that the urine returns to a pale yellow or clear color.

5. Kegel exercises

Try doing Kegel exercises to increase pelvic floor muscle strength. Studies show that it can prevent urine leakage. Keep in mind, although frequent urination during pregnancy is normal, you must remain vigilant and visit your obstetrician regularly. Because, this condition could be a sign that you are experiencing a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) or Diabetes.
