BARCELONA starting to feel the negative impact of leaving Lionel Messi from their squad during the second match Spanish league 2021-2022 season against Athletic Bilbao. In that match, Barcelona struggled to steal a point from Bilbao.

After the match against Bilbao, Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman also commented. Koeman explained that the teams against Barcelona are now less afraid of them since Messi left the club based at the Estadio Camp Nou.

“I don’t like to keep talking about the same things, but we are talking about the best player in the world. Our opponents are more afraid when Messi is here,” Koeman explained, as quoted by Sport, Monday (23/8/2021).

In addition, Koeman also explained that his absence greatly affected Barcelona’s game. Because when there was Messi, Barcelona was very easy to be able to maintain possession of the ball when facing their opponents.

“For us too, if you pass the ball to Leo, usually he doesn’t lose the ball. You can observe that Messi is not on the pitch (influence). We know that and we can’t change that,” said Koeman.

With these results, Barcelona is now in third place in the 2021-2022 Spanish League standings. They have collected four points from the two matches they have played.
