1NEWS – Professor of the Faculty of Law UGM, Professor Sigit Riyanto, gave his response regarding the sentence for the former Social Assistance (Bansos) corruption convict, Juliari P Batubara, who was sentenced to 12 years.
As is known, the Panel of Judges at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) said that one of the things that eased Juliari’s sentence was the insults the PDIP cadre received before being sentenced by the court.
“The judge who decided to choose this attitude has turned his back on the sense of justice and misery that is being faced by the community,” said Professor Sigit to 1NEWS, Wednesday (25/8).
Not only that, he also feels confused about what the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has recently done.
The KPK intends to work with former corrupt convicts as anti-corruption counselors.
In fact, the Deputy for Education and Community Participation of the Corruption Eradication Commission, Wawan Wardiana, even named convicts in corruption cases as survivors.
“The term survivors refers to those who are victims. Not to refer to those who are criminals or prisoners,” he explained.
On the other hand, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Senior Investigator Novel Baswedan revealed 3 important notes in this case.
“First, this is a serious case related to disaster relief funds and the perpetrators of corruption are high-ranking officials,” said Novel Baswedan.
Nevertheless, Novel feels that the KPK leadership does not look serious in the Covid-19 social assistance corruption case.
“In fact, at the beginning, Pak Firli spoke as if he was serious about handling this case so that he would be severely punished. It should be investigated with heavy threats,” said Novel Baswedan.
Secondly, according to him, in this case of corruption, the COVID-19 social assistance program has involved many parties.
According to him, the KPK is now not serious in carrying out investigations so that this case is resolved.
“This case is definitely detrimental and the state financial loss is suspected to be very large. However, there has not been any visible effort to save state finances with relevant investigations,” he concluded.
