Sony Pictures has just announced that the teaser trailer Spider-Man: No Way Home has broken the all-time record for global views of a movie trailer in the first 24 hours, previously held by Avengers: Endgame. According to Sony, the trailer also generated the largest number of conversations/conversations on social media globally for a 24-hour period of all time with 4.5 million mentions.
It’s no surprise that Sony expects great success this coming December with the Spider-Man: No Way Home, and their hopes seemed to be coming true when the film’s teaser garnered a staggering 355.5 million views in its first 24 hours globally, more than double the Spider-Man: Far From Home. While the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame “only” managed to get 289 million views in the same time period.
Of course, there’s a reason why this Marvel Cinematic Universe film is getting so much attention and it mostly boils down to the inclusion of a multiverse. Since it was announced that Marvel would be tearing up their MCU timeline to bring in new characters and threats, and in the case of Spider-Man several characters previously only seen in other films starring the previous Spider-Man actors (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield), fans have become more enthusiastic and curious about what this actually means and who to see in the upcoming film.
Trailer teaser No Way Home which was released on August 23 just then unleashed the story of the Multiverse and shattered the reality of Peter Parker (Tom Holland), which was reason enough to intrigue fans around the world. However, the trailer also shows Alfred Molina returning as Doc Ock for the first time since 2004’s Spider-Man 2, and we also get a glimpse of Green Goblin’s Pumpkin Bomb with a little background sound from Willem Dafoe. With so many characters being teased by Sony and Marvel again, fans seem to be struggling to see every frame of the trailer No Way Home in hopes of discovering other hidden secrets, such as the presence of Electro, Sandman and Lizard.
Spider-Man: No Way Home bring back Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Ned played by Jacob Batalon, and MJ played by Zendaya after the events of the previous film changed Peter’s world forever. Jon Watts returns to direct this third film from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Also returning for the new Spidey film are Marisa Tomei, Angourie Rice, Tony Revolori, Jon Favreau, and Hannibal Buress, as well as Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, who returns to assist Peter in dealing with the consequences of his secret identity being made public.
However, Spider-Man: No Way Home is a superhero film that has been eagerly awaited by many enthusiastic fans. You can watch it when it hits theaters on December 17, 2021.
