The man with the initials ES (32), from Banyuwangi, East Java, became a victim of beatings and looting when ordering sex services using the MiChat application. “The robbery mode invites users of the MiChat application on a date,” said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tile Police Sector Iptu Sutrisno, Monday (29/3). The three perpetrators are Asep M alias Tania (27), Doni alias Natasya (24), and M Alfandi (23) alias Maudy. On Friday (19/3) at around 22.30 WIB, the victim sent a message to a woman who owns an account in the name of Tania on the MiChat application. After that, the perpetrator asked the victim to come and meet at the Cleo Hotel room, Jalan Mayor Mustajab, Surabaya. Arriving at the victim’s room, he was surprised to see that the woman he was dating did not match the photo in the application.

Then ES canceled the date. The perpetrator then asked for IDR 1.5 million as compensation for the cancellation, but the victim refused to give it. The perpetrator’s friend came. They carried out violence against the victim and also threatened. “Mobile phones and cash for dating payments were seized by the three perpetrators,” he explained. The frightened victim immediately ran out of the hotel to the police station to report what had happened. Following up on the victim’s report, the Tile Police Sector officers checked the CCTV to find out the face of the perpetrator.

The police disguised themselves as ordering sex services and managed to catch the perpetrators. “We tried the same method by placing an order. On March 23, 2021, we managed to catch the three perpetrators,” said Sutrisno. The perpetrators are charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code and or Article 368 concerning the Crime of Theft with Violence, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
