1NEWS – In February 1981, Prince Charles proposed to Princess Diana. Charles proposed to Diana after meeting him 13 times. Interestingly, Diana had thought that Charles’ proposal was a joke.

“I went to Windsor Castle and I arrived around 5pm and he sat me down and said: ‘I missed you so much.’ But there was never a touch from him,” Diana says in Andrew Norton’s book “Diana: Her True Story — In Her Own Words.” “She then said: ‘Will you marry me?’ and I laughed. I thought: ‘This is a joke,’ and I said: ‘Yeah, okay,’ and laughed.”

Princess Diana seems to have seen the proposal as a joke because Prince Charles did not kneel as Western men usually do when proposing to his girlfriend.

The situation then changed when Charles spoke in a serious tone to Diana. “She got very serious. She said: ‘You realize that one day you will become Queen.’ And a voice said to me inside: ‘You won’t be Queen but you will have a tough role.’”

Understanding that Charles was not kidding, Diana this time agreed to Charles’ proposal with a serious tone. “After that I told him ‘I love you so much, I love you so much’,” Diana said.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles married on July 29, 1981 at St. Paul, England, in a grand and luxurious procession.

There were 3,500 invitees who came to the wedding ceremony of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. Meanwhile, 600 hundred thousand people poured into the streets of London to celebrate the couple’s wedding. Not only that, it is estimated that there are around 750 million pairs of eyes watching this historical event on television.

When married, Princess Diana looked beautiful in a wedding dress with a tail length of 7.62 meters. The dress is touted as one of the most beautiful and memorable wedding dresses of all time.
