Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal results in La Liga – Atletico Madrid came close to being beaten at home by Villarreal but in the end they managed to end the match 2-2, goals from Manu Trigueros and Groeneveld wasted instantly when Aissa Mandi scored an own goal!

Atletico Madrid and Villarreal ended the first half with a 0-0 draw; this is the third time in four encounters without a goal in the first half.

Hosts Atletico Madrid had their best chance six minutes from time when Correa rounded Rulli and sent the ball to Carrasco with a precise pass, but before the ball crossed the line Etienne Capoue cleared the ball to prevent it from entering the net!

The first half ended with the score 0-0, there was not enough pressure and attack to really test the resilience of the two goalkeepers.

The second half immediately started with a number of goals! In the 52nd minute, Pino stabbed in from the right flank and slipped past two Atleti defenders and then found Trigueros. The midfielder opted to shoot straight away and the ball shot into the top corner of Jan Oblak’s goal! 1-0 to Villarreal!

Atletico Madrid responded immediately! Four minutes later Correa entered the penalty area unmarked on the right and sent the ball to Suarez. The Uruguayan responded with an assist with a first-time strike, beating goalkeeper Rulli at the near post. Score draw 1-1!

In the 74th minute, Villarreal took the lead again! Capoue sent the ball forward, which caused chaos in the Atleti defense between Gimenez and Savic. Danjuma Groeneveld managed to break into Jan Oblak’s goal after taking control of the ball outside the penalty box from Yeremi Pino! It’s the first time a substitute and a new signing has scored for the club!

As the match entered the second half of 90+5 minute injury time, Villarreal’s victory was in sight when their player scored an own goal!

Saul’s cross from midfield was met by Aissa Mandi’s header outside his own penalty box. The centre-back was seen trying to direct the ball at his goalkeeper, only to see Rulli clear the net while trying to catch the ball. Rulli’s miscommunication left the net completely open and the ball rolled across the line in slow motion! Final score 2-2 between Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal!
