1NEWS – Death Princess Diana in August 1997 clearly left trauma and sadness. Especially for his children, Prince William and Prince Harry, who was still a teenager. At that age, a child needs attention and affection from parents. Realizing that his children are going to have a tough day and need direction from someone who understands their soul and mind, Charles hastily summoned Tiggy Legge Bourke, his former personal assistant, back to the palace.

Less than 48 hours since Diana’s death, Tiggy, nicknamed The Royal Surrogate Mother, has returned to Balmoral. He was asked personally by Charles to take care of William and Harry. Tiggy has a special assignment to help the two children overcome the crisis after his mother’s death. For Tiggy, who had just quit as Charles’ assistant three months ago, taking care of William and Harry was nothing new. At the moment Diana overseas, he has been entrusted with the task of accompanying and taking care of William and Harry. Taking them on vacation, accompanying them to watch their father play polo or just taking a walk, had been Tiggy’s side job while working for Prince Charles.

Not infrequently William and Harry complained to him every time there was a difference of opinion with his father. This closeness made the two little princes introduce Tiggy to their friends as Our Beloved Nanny. Not infrequently Diana also exchanged ideas with him. Tiggy was indeed the most assertive type of woman the palace had ever hired. He is accepted by anyone because he is willing to share his taste and is always ready to help. When Diana experienced a marriage crisis, Tiggy was among those who continued to provide moral support to Diana. “In that one case, he really can’t do anything, because he is bound by the rules of royal service. But we know he shares Diana’s pain. We saw it from the way he stroked and gave William and Harry a hug,” said one of Charles’ secretaries who was friendly with Tiggy.

Tiggy’s presence when the Charles family was experiencing an emergency did not mean that it did not invite controversy. Although Charles himself decided on Tiggy as “mother” when his two children were grieving, not a few said that the decision was rash. Several courtiers judged Tiggy to be no longer an “insider” of the kingdom. They even voiced suggestions that Charles be closer to his children. ”This is the time Charles showed dedication as a father. So far, the public has not paid attention to how Charles has shown his love for his children,” said one of the palace administrators.

On the other hand, many agreed and supported Charles’ decision. “Prince Charles no doubt loves his children. But Tiggy could give meaning from the other side. At least with the tears and sympathy of a woman. After all why fuss over Tiggy’s status. Isn’t it important now to help William and Harry overcome this crisis?” defended one of the palace administrators, as quoted by the tabloids The Express.

Controversy over Tiggy’s whereabouts was natural. The reason is, who is accepted by his children Diana and also the courtiers, as figures close to Charles’ personal life, are still the most interesting topics. Tiggy seemed to be given a special place by Charles. In fact he was trusted and more accepted than Camilla Parker-Bowles, Charles’ lover. Once reunited with Diana’s children, Tiggy immediately decided to hide them from the press. With Charles’ approval, he forbade anyone in the Balmoral and Buckingham neighborhoods to keep newspapers or tabloids. He was afraid that William and Harry would be hurt and burdened by everything in the print media.
