1NEWS, After all, Cristiano Ronaldo is not only the best player in the world, but also a born star. This time Ronaldo became the center of the drama when he led the Portugal National Team to beat the Republic of Ireland with a score of 2-1 in the Qatar 2021-2022 World Cup Qualification Group A.

How not?

Ronaldo had to struggle to awaken Portugal’s mentality as the host at the Algarve Stadium, Algarve, Portugal, Wednesday (1/9) or Thursday morning WIB. The reason is, the 36-year-old footballer who just “returned” to Manchester United had failed to commit a penalty in the 15th minute.

The thrill opened when the former Sporting Lisbon, Real Madrid and Juventus man headed in his trademark header to equalize 1-1 in the 89th minute after Ireland had scored through John Egan late in the first half.

It didn’t end there, Ronaldo perfected his revival by scoring the second goal in the 96th minute. Then, Portugal immediately rose to the top of the Group A standings overcoming Serbia in second position.

For Ronaldo personally, two goals against Ireland made him the player with the most international goals in history. Now, CR7– nicknamed Ronaldo – scored a total of 111 goals past 109 goals belonging to players from Iran, Ali Daei, in second place.

Other statistical records say that the two goals in the Algarve are Ronaldo’s 50th goal in the last 47 fights. This data shows that Ronaldo has at least scored an average of one goal per game in 47 consecutive matches.

“The phenomenal run of 49 (plus one) goals in the last 47 appearances for Portugal makes the ‘monster’ of Madeira rightfully the top scorer in the history of men’s international matches. Tabik, legend!” FIFA tweeted on the official World Cup account.

Ronaldo has traveled 18 years since his debut with the Portugal Senior National Team against Kazakhstan in August 2003. Ronaldo scored his first contribution for Portugal at the 2004 European Cup in a 1-2 defeat to Greece as well as his eighth game for the Seleccao – the nickname of the Portuguese national team.

Given that Ronaldo still has a lot of games ahead of him, including the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the legend has the opportunity to widen the gap as the top goalscorer in history.[]
