Barty & Swiatek to Round Three, Gauff Stopped

1NEWS, Australia’s world number one Ashleigh Barty continues to hold on to her chances of winning the 2021 United States Open. Barty advanced to the third round after beating Denmark’s Clara Tauson in two sets (6-1 and 7-5).

Competing at Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York, United States, Thursday (2/9), Barty took one hour and 30 minutes to beat Tauson. Barty colored his victory with a record of eleven aces compared to two made by Tauson.

Barty dominated the first half with a key moment in the second game. After a 1-0 lead, Barty faced the long deuce he won then raced to 5-0 and won 6-1 after Tauson had stolen a point in the sixth game.

The battle got even tighter in the second set when a 5-3 Barty had to see his opponent level it at 5-5. After that, Barty showed his capacity by forcing Tauson twice to make mistakes for the victory with a score of 7-5.

In the third round, Barty just waiting for the winner between the host tennis player, Shelby Rogers, and the representative of Romania, Simona Cristea. The old US Open says that Barty has a 5-0 record against Rogers and has never met Cristea.

In other matches, Poland’s 2021 French Open champion, Iga Swiatek, also advanced to the third round. Swiatek got this by taking a three-set match against French tennis player Fiona Ferro.

Swiatek took two hours and three seconds to finish Ferro’s resistance with a 3-6, 7(7)-6(3) and 6-0 win. In the third round, Swiatek was awaited by tennis player from Estonia, Annet Kontaveit.

Meanwhile, the fellow-American duel between Sloane Stephens and young tennis player Coco Gauff ended for the first name victory. Stephens, who is also the 2017 US Open champion, beat Gauff 6-4 6-3.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion from Switzerland, Belinda Bencic, also advanced to the next round after eliminating Italy’s Martina Trevisan with 6-3, 6-1 wins. Bencic has yet to win a grand slam with a best third-round finish at the 2015 French Open.[]
