Registration for the 2021 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) finally officially closed on August 31, 2021.

The FFI Committee has accepted a number of films, including feature films, short films, documentaries and animated films, and film criticism online.

There are 69 feature-length films listed, non-length films which include 386 short story films, 51 short animated films, 4 long-animated films, 97 short documentary films, and 15 long-length documentaries.

In addition, the FFI Committee has also received 156 titles of film criticism.

The enthusiasm of filmmakers to take part in this year’s FFI can be seen from the number of films that have registered. For feature-length films, of the 88 titles recorded to air during the period from October 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021 (11 months), as many as 69 titles have registered to compete in FFI 2021.

This number is slightly higher than last year’s registrant, which was 65 titles for a 12-month broadcast period.

In addition, 4 titles also registered for the feature-length animated film category, which were not competed in the previous year. Participants in the feature-length documentary category also increased significantly this year by 15 titles from only 4 titles last year.

The 2021 FFI Committee would like to thank all filmmakers and film reviewers who have registered their works, as well as the participation and support of associations and the Indonesian Film Board (BFI). All films and film criticism works will go through a selection and judging process whose nomination list will be carried out on October 10, 2021. The peak night for the 2021 FFI Citra Cup award will be held on November 10, 2021.

Garin Nugroho, Chair of the 2021 FFI Judging Division, said that the large number of applicants showed the high interest of film people to participate in producing Indonesian films in their own homes.

The enthusiasm of filmmakers to register their films with FFI is a reflection of the productivity and togetherness of film-makers in the midst of a pandemic. A mirror of the diversity of themes and genres, the growth of a new generation, and breakthrough efforts in the midst of a Pandemic.” Garin said.

Meanwhile, the selection of new categories with special awards, namely the audience’s favorite film, actor and actress, started yesterday, September 1, 2021.

The films that can be selected are all films that aired during the period from October 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021. Likewise, actors and actresses are those whose films aired during that period.

Indonesian film lovers can participate in voting through the FFI official website until October 31, 2021 (https://festivalfilm.id/vote).

Reza Rahadian, Chair of the 2021 FFI Committee, sincerely hopes that the Indonesian film lover community as part of the Indonesian film ecosystem can participate in enlivening FFI this year. According to Reza, Indonesian film audiences are a very important part in the growth of Indonesian films so that their participation cannot be separated.

Reading the direction of movement of Indonesian film audiences will also affect the productivity of Indonesian films. Through this mechanism for selecting the audience’s favorite category, FFI is expected to be able to have data on the movement of the audience. Come on, choose your favorite Indonesian actor, actress, and film,“explained Reza.

Whereas, Prilly Latuconsina, one of the FFI 2021 ambassadors, warmly welcomes this audience’s favorite category.

“It’s great that this time there is an audience’s favorite choice. Because in my opinion, the audience is also the judge for how the actor can capture the heart and make the audience feel the emotions conveyed. Criticism from the audience and the feelings that reach the hearts of the audience can also be materials and motivations for actors to evaluate their performances, “explained Prilly.

Director of Film, Music and New Media, Directorate General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ahmad Mahendra, expressed his appreciation for the performance of the FFI committee which has succeeded in making Indonesian filmmakers compete to register their works.

Thank you to Indonesian filmmakers, who have registered their works at FFI 2021. Hopefully this can inspire other Indonesian film activists. Now we just have to wait for the best works to be selected from the good works that have entered the judging table,’ concluded Mahendra.
