Prayer of the Prophet Zakaria

After marriage, it is hoped that the couple will be blessed with offspring in their small family. In addition to being active in trying, praying the Prophet Zakaria’s prayer is worth trying to ask for the presence of a baby to the Creator.

The Story of the Prophet Zakaria

It is Prophet Zakaria AS, a prophet who is praised by Allah SWT thanks to his gentle manners when praying. This made him famous for praying for offspring which was granted by Allah.

“What is recited is an explanation of the mercy of your Lord to His servant, Zakaria, (i.e.) when he prays to his Lord in a soft voice,” says Allah SWT in Surah Maryam verse 2-3.

The Prophet Zakaria was born in 91 BC. Before being ordained as a prophet, Prophet Zakaria called for the Children of Israel to repent and worship Allah. Because of his patience in preaching, the Children of Israel respected him.

When married, Prophet Zakaria had no children because his wife could not have children. Until one day, Imran’s wife came to leave her daughter named Maryam.

Prophet Zakaria and his wife gladly accepted and raised Mary with love. They considered Maryam as their own child.

So unfortunately, Prophet Zakaria made a special room for Maryam to worship at Baitul Maqdis which is currently the Aqsa Mosque. The special room for worship is known as the Mihrab.

Although happy with Maryam’s presence, there are concerns because Prophet Zakaria’s age is getting old. He asked who would later continue the teachings of the truth that he had been spreading all this time.

However, the Prophet Zakaria did not give up. He continued to pray to Allah with tenderness to give offspring who could continue the da’wah.

“O my Lord, my bones are really weak and my head is full of gray hair, and I have never been disappointed in praying to You, my Lord,” said Prophet Zakaria starting his prayer.

“And indeed, I was worried about my relatives after my death, even though my wife was barren, so bestow me a child from Your side, who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, a person who is pleased,” he continued in prayer according to the letter Maryam verses 4-6.

The prayer for asking for offspring is also found in the letters of Ali Imran verse 38 and As-Saffat verse 100 which reads as follows:

لِي الصَّالِحِينَ

“O Allah, grant me a pious child.” (QS. As-Saffat: 100)

or the following:

لِيْ لَّدُنْكَ اِنَّكَ الدُّعَاۤءِ

rabbi hab lii mil ladungka żurriyyatan ṭayyibah, innaka samii’ud-du’aa`

Meaning: O my Lord, give me good offspring from Your side, verily You are the Hearer of prayer.

This prayer was said by the Prophet Zakaria and his wife day and night, and they were increasingly praying. This effort was often ridiculed by the Children of Israel. They do not believe that this prayer will be answered by Allah.

Prayer of the Prophet Zakaria

Until one day, an angel came to call Prophet Zakaria who was praying at the Mihrab.

“O Zakaria! We give you good news with a boy named Yahya, whom We have never given a name like that before,” says Allah in Surah Maryam verse 7. Hearing the news, Prophet Zakaria was shocked.

“My Lord, how am I going to have children, when my wife is barren and I have actually reached a very old age?” asked the Prophet Zechariah.

“That was easy for Me; indeed, I created you before that, even though (at that time) you were not yet formed at all,” says Allah in Surah Maryam verse 7, answering Zakaria’s question. Prophet Zakaria then asked God for a sign. Allah gave a sign of not being able to speak for three nights.

“Allah conveys good news to you with (birth) Yahya, who confirms a sentence (word) from Allah, a role model, capable of restraint (from lust) and a prophet among the pious,” said Allah in Surah Ali-Imran. verse 39.

Prophet Zakaria then thanked Allah SWT because his prayer was granted by Allah. Yahya became the only child of the Prophet Zakaria who was also appointed by Allah to be a prophet. This father and son also preached together, not to forget calling the Children of Israel to worship Allah.

Tips for Asking for Descendants in Islam

Praying and trying are like weapons so that someday human desires will be granted by God, including a child. In Islam, Parents you should do the following tips to be blessed with children:

1. Strengthen Confidence

The Story and Gentleness of Prophet Zakaria's Prayer to Accelerate the Presence of a Baby

First, believe that the power of prayer is proportional to faith which is also strong. Before offering a prayer, first strengthen your belief that God’s power is so great to answer the prayer you ask. Match, sustenance, and death are in the hands of Allah.

“Only belongs to Allah the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He gives daughters to whomever He wills, and He gives sons to whomever He wills. Or He gave a pair of daughters and sons. He also makes whoever He wills barren. Verily, He is All-Knowing and All-Powerful.” (QS. As-Shura: 49 – 50).

2. Lots of Istighfar

In addition to praying, don’t forget to accompany prayers with lots of istighfar and begging for forgiveness, Allah promises many things for people who recite a lot of istighfar. In one of the Surahs of the Qur’an, Allah recounts the teachings of the Prophet Noah to His people:

لْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا انَ ارًا* لِ السَّمَاء لَيْكُم ارًا* الٍ ل لَّكُمْ اتٍ ل لَّكُمْ ارًا

“…Istighfar to your Lord for verily He is Most Forgiving. Surely He will send you heavy rains, multiply your wealth and children, and create gardens and rivers for you.” (QS. Noah: 10-12).

Parents, that’s the story and power of Prophet Zakaria’s prayer that can be applied. Hopefully useful for those of you who need it.
