Following the Case of Harassment and Bullying of Central KPI Employees, the Police Begins to Conduct Investigations

Recently, the public has been shocked after uploading a photo containing an open letter regarding cases of harassment and bullying in the work environment of the Central KPI was revealed. The upload was widely discussed by netizens and many asked for clarification from the Central KPI. The victim with the initials MS claimed to have experienced this since 2012 until now.

He continued to receive bullying treatment, until finally he decided to write an open letter to related parties so that he could get legal protection. The open letter was uploaded last Wednesday (1/9).

A man with the initials MS wrote an open letter to several parties regarding the acts of harassment and bullying he experienced while working at the Central KPI office. Based on MS’s open letter uploaded on the @grassgroot.id Instagram page, since 2012 he has been receiving treatment bully of some of his co-workers. He was forced to buy food for his co-workers, beaten, and even harassed several times. In 2016, he felt emotionally unstable and experienced some decline in bodily functions.

Finally, in 2017, he decided to go to Pelni Hospital and the endoscopy results revealed that he had hypersecretion of gastric juices due to trauma and stress. He also did a number of treatments with a psychiatrist at Sumber Waras Hospital and was given sedatives. Bullying from her co-workers is still happening and MS is feeling increasingly frustrated and stressed. Based on the advice from his family, he decided to consult a psychologist at the Taman Sari Health Center and as a result he experienced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD.

On August 11, 2017, he reported the acts of harassment and bullying he had experienced to Komnas HAM through e-mail. On 19 September 2017, Komnas HAM responded to its report and concluded that what its co-workers were doing was a form of crime and crime. Komnas HAM also advised MS to make a report to the police.

Finally, MS made a report to the police, but the officer did not respond to his report and asked him to file a complaint with the office superior and resolve it internally. MS tried to report to superiors and the only follow-up was to move the workspace. MS’s complaints didn’t stop the bullying he was going through, but instead they oppressed him with dirtier words.

After the open letter written by MS was widely discussed by netizens, the Central KPI stated its attitude and conveyed five things related to cases of harassment and bullying that occurred in the work environment through the KPI official website, namely as follows.

  1. Encouraging the settlement of legal channels for alleged cases of sexual harassment and bullying that occurred in the work environment of the Central KPI
  2. Fully support the entire legal process and will be open to the information needed for the investigation of this case
  3. Provide legal assistance to the alleged victim and prepare psychological assistance as an effort to recover the alleged victim
  4. Has carried out an internal investigation by asking for information and explanations from the alleged perpetrator
  5. Release the alleged perpetrator from all Central KPI activities in order to facilitate the investigation process by the police

Komnas HAM commissioner, Beka Ulung Hapsara also confirmed that MS had made a report to Komnas HAM through e-mail. He also said, “Komnas will handle the case if the person concerned complains again to Komnas HAM,” Beka said as quoted from CNN news on Wednesday (1/9).

In any context, acts of harassment and bullying cannot be justified because they can have an impact on the victim’s health, both physically and mentally. Hopefully there will be no more cases like this and the victims can have a safe and comfortable place to tell stories and get protection and justice.
