“The message behind Lingard’s celebration.”

1NEWS – Jesse Lingard scored his first goal for England in almost three years, especially when they took the lead against Andorra. Lingard broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siuu’ celebration.

Lingard did miss Gareth Southgate’s squad for the summer’s Euros, despite his outstanding form at the end of the season with West Ham United. However, he was eventually called up to the Three Lions squad for the week’s World Cup qualifiers.

Despite playing just four minutes for Manchester United this season, Lingard has earned the trust of defending England. That trust was paid off by Lingard when he scored in the 18th minute after maximizing Bukayo Saka’s cross. It was his first international goal since November 2018.

When Ronaldo joined Manchester United this summer, Lingard seemed to want to welcome his new colleague with a CR7-style celebration. Lingard incorporates ‘JL’ hand gestures like the celebration of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Lingard helped England destroy Andorra, 4-0.

Lingard, who reportedly told West Ham he does not want to move back this summer, is one of three players deemed necessary to leave Old Trafford following Ronaldo’s arrival.

However, the 28-year-old does have a strong relationship with Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer. In a now-famous video, Ronaldo coached the youngster while the two were at the club.

If there was any doubt how much the England international idolized his new team-mate, it was all lost after Sunday’s celebrations.

After starring on loan at West Ham last season, Lingard has returned to Old Trafford hoping to find his way back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans, of which he is a ‘big part’ according to the Old Trafford boss.

If that doesn’t work, the academy graduate will become a free agent next summer and former Three Lions striker Ian Wright believes the club will be lining up for his signature.

“One thing I would say is if he’s going to stay at Man United and he’s a free agent next season there will be a lot of people wanting him – it just depends on how the season goes,” Wright said on ITV.

“When you’ve been there that long and the opportunity comes as a free agent, you never know. Right now what we know is he’s trying hard,” said Roy Keane.
Keane also said that Lingard had been in “no man’s land” all summer. “It’s tough, you think he’s going to move on. But, having to keep his head down at Man Utd, Gareth obviously likes him.”

“It’s another chance for Jesse to get 90 minutes under his belt and maybe score a goal because he’s a good player. He just needs to play regularly.”
