ACCURATE.CO Some people think that reciting the Qur’an for the dead will not be rewarded. More than that, it is even considered as an act of heresy that was never committed by the Prophet Muhammad.
The act of bid’ah itself is an act that was never committed by the Prophet and was never exemplified by him. But unfortunately, people who claim that the reward of reading the Qur’an is for the dead have not yet failed to understand. The proof, many famous scholars state that reading the holy verses for people who have died the reward is up to.
Sheikh Az-Zaila’i of the Hanafi school said:
الْإِنْسَانَ لَهُ يَجْعَلَ ابَ لِهِ لِغَيْرِهِ، لِ السُّنَّةِ الْجَمَاعَةِ، لَاةً انَ صَوْمًا ا اءَةَ الْأَذْكَارَ لأَنْوَ لأَنْوَ لأَنْوَ
It means: “It is permissible for a person to make the reward of his deeds for others, according to the opinion of Ahlussunnah wal Jama’ah, whether in the form of prayer, fasting, hajj, alms, reading the Qur’an, remembrance, or so on, in the form of all kinds of good deeds. The reward is up to to the dead and benefit him.”
It is not only scholars who state that reading the Qur’an for people who have died will be rewarded, the Prophet also confirmed the same thing in a noble hadith, it is stated that;
عن سيدنا معقل بن يسار رضي الله عنه ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: يس قلب القران لا يقرؤها رجل يريد الله والدار الاخرة الا غفر الله له اقرؤها على موتاكم) رواه ابو داود, ابن ماجه, النسائى, احمد, الحكيم, البغوى, اِبْنُ اَبِىْ , اَلطَّبْرَانِىْ, اَلْبَيْهَقِىْ, ابْنُ انْ
Meaning: “From a friend of Ma’qal bin Yasar ra that Rasulullah saw said: Yasin’s letter is the subject of the Qur’an, not read by someone who hopes to please Allah unless his sins are forgiven. Read Yasin’s letter to people who died in between you.” (HR Abu Dawud, etc.).
Some other scholars also have the opinion like Imam Shafi’i who said that the reward for reading the Qur’an and the thayyibah sentences that are read for people who have died will be rewarded,
He said so;
اَنْ اءَ اْلقرْأن ,وَاِنْ ا اْلقرْأن انَ ا
It means: “That, it is sunnah to read the verses of the Qur’an to the dead, and if it reaches the completion of the Qur’an it will be better. Even Imam Nawawi in his Majmu’ book explains that not only tahlil and prayer, but also Sunnah for people who visit the grave to read the verses of the Qur’an and then accompanied by praying for the dead.”
The conclusion is clear that the law of reading the Qur’an for people who have died is permissible, and the reward goes to the person who dies. The Prophet Muhammad allowed it, so it is not called an act of heresy. Wallahu A’lam.
