Persib Bandung coach, Robert Rene Alberts hopes that BRI Liga 1 will use Video Assistant Referee (VAR)

Persib Bandung won in the first week of BRI Liga 1 2021-2022 after defeating Barito Putera, Saturday (04/09/21) at the Indomilk Arena Stadium.

In that match, the team nicknamed Maung Bandung managed to win with a narrow score of 1-0. The single goal against Laskar Antasari was scored by Marc Klok.

Persib Bandung coach, Robert Rene Alberts, highlighted the odd thing in the match against Barito Putera.

It is known, Maung Bandung could have won 2-0, but Mohammed Rashid’s goal in the 32nd minute was disallowed by the referee because it was considered an offside position.

Robert Rene Alberts then uploaded screenshots showing Rashid’s position before scoring a goal.

The Dutch tactician is still doubtful about the referee’s decision, so he says VAR is the right solution in Liga 1.

“What do you think? Onside or offside? VAR could be the solution. Good ..,” wrote Robert Rene Alberts on his Instagram account.

Netizens, including Mohammed Rashid, the goalscorer, immediately commented on Robert Rene Alberts’ upload by agreeing with the coach’s suggestion regarding VAR.

“I think VAR is needed (in Liga 1),” wrote @moerashih95.

“Before the referee was not right, now the linesman. Laughing league,” wrote the account owner @fikri_riszak

“Onside but naturally there is no VAR, the big European leagues were often like this before there was VAR, League 1 needs VAR. Focus on the next match,” wrote the account owner @rifki95if

Robert Rene Alberts also considered that his squad was still lacking in creating opportunities, despite winning in their first match.

“I think, if you look at the 90 minutes, we had the ball possession. It’s true that we didn’t create enough chances if we saw the advantage in possession, we should have been more creative and effective,” said Robert Alberts after the game.

Robert Alberts added that Persib’s defense in the match went well, so there were not many dangerous balls that led to Maung Bandung goalkeeper Muhammad Natshir.

Persib Bandung will next meet Persita Tangerang on the second matchday of BRI Liga 1 2021-2022, Saturday (11/09/21).
