Finally fans can see the premiere Jason Momoa as the ruler of the ocean in the movie Aquaman 2 or which is now officially titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The project, which is currently in production with a planned release in 2022, will see Momoa reprise his role as Arthur Curry, the superhero and king of Atlantis. James Wan also returned to the director’s chair after directing the first Aquaman in 2018, and now the director known for his horror films has revealed two photos of Momoa as Arthur Curry in two different costumes.

The Atlantis superhero is seen featured in two new costumes for the upcoming sequel. Wan shows two side-by-side photos of himself in full costume, with the first showing his classic costume, and the second a “stealth suit,” or stealth suit made from Atlantean technology based on the cephalopod’s camouflage abilities.

The new costume retains the same basic styling as the original, but gets a significant color upgrade, moving away from bright colors to dark blues and blacks, while also being streamlined in some areas. The fins on the boots have been removed, and Aquaman is seen not wearing gloves.

As for the tone or aura for this sequel, Wan once said that he was inspired by the Italian horror film entitled Planet of the Vampires. He recently told Total Film, “Aquaman 2 is heavily inspired by Planet of the Vampires. You can get the boy out of the horror but you can never take the horror out of the boy.”

Apart from Momo, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also reprises Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison as Arthur’s father, Thomas Curry. Star Game of Thrones and Ghost in the Shell, Pilou Asbæk is rumored to be playing the main villain in the film.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2022 and filming is now underway in London.
