Mike Flanagan who is the showrunner for several Netflix series such as The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor now has another series in the works. The project entitled Midnight Mass has just revealed a unique poster. An important aspect of the poster is the announcement that a trailer is coming next week.
The release date for the series, which will be available on Netflix, is September 24, 2021. The poster itself follows the “floating heads” poster style that is often seen these days in the entertainment industry. For the uninitiated, “floating head” basically means a picture of the main character’s face scattered all over the picture. A tag line for the show called out, “Be not Afraid.” Uniquely, this poster is presented in the form of a paint painting, not a printed photo.
Midnight Mass tells the story of an isolated small island community disturbed by the return of a strange young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When Pastor Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with an inexplicable and seemingly miraculous event, a renewed religious fervor reigns in the community – but it seems the “miracle” has a price.
Flanagan’s wife Kate Siegel co-stars Midnight Mass along with Zach Gilford, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Alex Essoe, Annarah Cymone, Annabeth Gish, Rahul Kohli, Kristin Lehman, Robert Longstreet, Igby Rigney, Samantha Sloyan, Henry Thomas, and Michael Trucco.
Flanagan is of course one of the filmmakers whose name is known as one of the best horror creators at the moment. He has directed some of the most acclaimed horror films of the last ten years. Examples include the Shinning sequel, Doctor Sleep, a film about a woman trapped in her room Gerald’s Game, project about killer mirror Oculus, a slasher about a deaf woman’s struggle to survive against intruders entitled Hush, and a supernatural prequel that received far better reviews than the original film, Ouija: Orgin of Evil. He also served as showrunner in the serial franchise Haunting of … which was quite successful.
