PSMS Medan proposes a format for the initial round or group stage of Liga 2 2021 by dividing the 24 participating clubs into 3 groups in order to play more.

This was proposed by the club nicknamed Chicken Kinantan because the clarity or certainty of the kick-off of the second caste of Indonesian football is rumored to be announced in the near future.

“Currently PSSI and PT. LIB (competition operator) is still focused on Liga 1 and in the near future it is reported that there will be clarity regarding Liga 2,” said PSMS club secretary, Julius Raja, to INDOSPORT, Sunday (05/09/21).

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Julius said that League 2 will also implement a bubble to bubble system as has been implemented by League 1.

Where the discourse on the format of the initial round of Liga 2 this season is 4 groups with 6 teams in each group with each team meeting twice.

“This means that each team will play 10 times in each group (4 groups format). That’s why we want only 3 groups. So each group consists of 8 teams and the number of matches will be more so 14 times each team plays,” he explained.

“With the number of matches that are more and more, of course this is getting better for the team. Because the team does not spend a little money. So it’s a shame if a big fee is spent but the number of matches is small,” he added.

Furthermore, Julius Raja said that by applying the 3 group format, it was considered quite reasonable because only 6 teams were relegated (the bottom 2 teams in each group).

“Reportedly they want 8 relegated teams (4 groups format with 2 teams in each relegation group),” said the man who is familiarly called King.

“But if the (format) is 3 groups, if each group is relegated 2 teams, it means that only 6 teams are relegated. In our opinion, it is still reasonable,” concluded the PSMS secretary.
