Riz Ahmed Talks About Losing 22 Pounds in 3 Weeks for His New Role

Ahmed Rice underwent an intense transformation for his role in the new movie Mogul Mowgli and he’s opening up about dropping 22 pounds to play Zed.

While the film was released in other parts of the world last year, it finally was just released in the U.S. The movie is about a rapper whose dreams of global fame are foiled by an autoimmune disease.

Rice recently discussed what the weight loss process was like and how no one should do what he did.

“I lost 10 kilos [about 22 pounds] in three weeks. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I had a professional dietician working with me, but it was really grueling and took me emotionally to an intense place, which probably informed the movie. That was a big part of it, being in a place of weakness and fatigue and insatiable hunger,” Rice told IndieWire.

Rice brought up something that Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya previously said about acting.

And Kaluuya said something I liked: ‘If you’re in your head, you’re dead.’ I think that’s true. Acting has to be in your body. Anything that brings you into your body centers you, and you can perform in that place,” he said.

At the Oscars earlier this year, Rice and his wife made their very first public appearance together.
