Bali United coach Stefano Cugurra assesses the assumption that his team is considered not optimal or sluggish as a natural thing. This can be seen in the opening match of the BRI Liga 1 2021.

Bali United opens Liga 1 against Persik Kediri on 27 August. Despite winning 1-0, many Bali United players looked exhausted in the match.

Stefano Cugurra alias Teco said that it could not be separated from the vacuum of Indonesian football. More than 500 days there is no football event in Indonesia.

“I think this (actually) is not an excuse, everyone who really knows the ball such as journalists, players, coaches, management who really knows the ball, he must know the situation is very difficult for Indonesian football,” Teco said when giving a press statement, Friday (10/9/2021).

“When the competition stops, players are more than one year without playing football. You know for sure in a year and a half sometimes there’s practice, there’s no practice. When players stop training, they have to train alone at home,” he said.

When the competition stops, practically players can’t get the most out of their training. Even if they practice independently, the results will not be as good as when they train together.

In addition to fatigue, Bali United players also collapsed on the field during the match. This condition does not only affect Bali United, but almost the majority of players from League 1 clubs.

“In football there is teamwork, physical training, and others. When he has to train on his own without a physical coach, without a coach, maybe he is wrong, not very good,” said Teco.

“I think for those who understand football, they know that the situation is very difficult but now it has started well, the league is in its second week, and we have to be better than before,” said the Brazilian coach.
