Paul Pogba Sets Premier League Assist Record After Playing a Role in Two Man Utd Goals – Paul Pogba continued his impressive start to Manchester United this season with two assists for his side’s final two goals scored by Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard, setting him up for a new record.

All eyes may be on Cristiano Ronaldo making his second Manchester United debut on Saturday, but Paul Pogba has also stood out with another impressive display earlier this season.

The France international midfielder was the subject of intense transfer speculation over the summer as his contract expires at the end of this season, while he is not yet ready to sign a new contract, as he has been heavily linked with a desire to play for Real Madrid.

But he continued to put in good form despite contract issues, including an impressive performance with two assists for Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard in Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United.

Thanks to the addition of two assists to his side’s last two goals, the 28-year-old midfielder has now registered seven assists in four Premier League games this season, taking him to a new Premier League record.

Paul Pogba is now the only player to register 10 assists in the Premier League in calendar year 2021, while his seven assists in Manchester United’s opening four games is the most ever made by any player in the first four games of a Premier League season.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo also set a record thanks to his two goals in his second debut for the club against Newcastle. At 36 years 218 days, Cristiano Ronaldo is the oldest player to score for United in the Premier League since Ryan Giggs in February 2013 (39 years 86 days vs QPR), while only Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have scored for Red Devil in the competition at an older age than the Portugal forward.
