Song list Deceiver:
1. Avernal Gate
2. House of Cadmus
3. Living Pyre
4. Shroud of Lethe
5. Obsidian Crown
6. The Astral Road

‘Living Pyre’ marks more than just the beginning of Khemmis’ new work, it also serves as a substantial benchmark for emotional struggle and growth.

Guitarist/vocalist Ben Hutcherson commented:
“When it comes to my own mental health, when I’m in a bad place, I can’t access the part of me that creates art. After coming to an understanding of myself, most of these songs came out in one sitting. I feel stable. I felt hopeful—even though there was so much out of the world that wasn’t entirely inspiring. We all need a reason to feel a glimmer of hope.”

Khemmis’ Darkest Album

Vocalist/guitarist Phil Pendergast describe the album’s theme:
“Thematically, all the songs are about the many ways we are tricked into believing stories about ourselves. That we are broken, that we are not good enough, that our genetics determine our destiny. This title is a ‘label’ that we put on our minds as a force that deceives us into believing these stories. The album’s lyrical trajectory is similar to Dante’s descent into his self-made Inferno. This is our darkest album to date.”

Hutcherson added:
“While our minds and hearts are responsible for this kind of deception, so is the world around us. There is a dialectic between the two which results in suffering. Anyone who has struggled with mental health or suffered any kind of trauma will tell you that there are times when the mind is its own animal to contend with. In that sense, we ourselves are deceivers; we believe that we are worthy to be a vessel for this pain and this suffering that befalls us both externally and internally”.
