“Some of the world’s top strikers are ready to compete to be the best”

1NEWS – We are now into the final months of 2021 and the competition to become the world’s top scorer is heating up.

There are at least five players who have produced some fantastic numbers in front of goal for club and country so far this year. Currently the leader of the list is Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski of Poland, who has scored 45 goals this year. The former Dortmund man has started the 2021/2022 season with several new records, scoring six goals in four games and is widely recognized as the best centre-forward to date.

In second place is Norwegian talent Erling Haaland, who has a total of 38 goals for Norway and Borussia Dortmund since January. The 21-year-old has also started the Bundesliga season well, scoring five goals in the four games he has played with Die Borussen.

In third place is Lionel Messi, who recently moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain. La Pulga has 36 goals to his name this year both internationally and at club level. The Tango national team captain himself has yet to score for his new team and has only made one appearance.

Messi’s PSG team-mate, Kylian Mbappe, has a two-goal margin of 33 goals. The former Monaco man did miss a penalty in this summer’s European Championship but he has scored three goals in four Ligue 1 games to date.

The fifth place is occupied by Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United, who has a total of 31 goals. The Portugal star recently became the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football with 111 goals for his country. The Georgina Rodríguez pair also made their debut back at Old Trafford by scoring twice against Newcastle at home.

With just over three-and-a-half months remaining until the end of 2021, there is still plenty of goals to come from Europe’s top five scoring machines.
