Barcelona Relive Manchester City Defender Hunt Barcelona have revived the hunt for Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.

The 27-year-old Spain international has reportedly been linked with a move to Camp Nou next year.

Spanish media revealed, Fichajes, as reported The Hard Tackle, the Blaugrana really want to strengthen the heart of their defense in the upcoming transfer market. The Catalans have also made a list of players they want to approach in this regard, and Aymeric Laporte is one of the players on that list.

The Barcelona target moved to Manchester City from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018, and has shown good progress at the Premier League champions. It took him little time to solidify his position at the Etihad, and is now recognized as one of England’s best defenders, prior to the 2020/21 season – when John Stones took over from City’s centre-back line-up.

However, Laporta has started at the start of the season, where he has played in three of the four games the Citizens have played so far, even scoring a goal.

In the summer of this year, Laporte has also made his debut for the Spanish national team, and performed beautifully at Euro 2020. Now, he is a player that is being targeted by Barca.

Barcelona had previously been chasing Laporte in the summer transfer market, but that desire failed to materialize. Ronald Koeman’s team then continued their intention to sign the 27-year-old, mainly due to the declining performances of both Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti.

While Gerard Pique is currently entering the end of his career in world football, although Barca managed to bring in Eric Garcia – also from Man City, as a replacement for Pique in the future.

However, the situation around Lenglet and Umtiti required Barca to bring in a new left-footed centre-back.

This is where the figure of Laporte is present, especially when the former French national team player is open to returning to La Liga. In addition, Barcelona also included the names of Sven Botman, Mohammed Salisu, Matthijs de Ligt and Cristian Romero in their list of target defenders.

One thing to see now is whether Barca make a serious effort to sign Laporte, as the club will likely have to spend a lot of money to sign him. For now, the Manchester City defender is one of the five defenders that Barca continue to monitor.
