Crazybola.com Barcelona are confident they can strengthen their attack by signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City in January 2022.
The England international has been linked with a transfer to the Catalans in recent weeks. Barca reportedly want to borrow Sterling from City to save the attack line of Ronald Koeman’s squad which was suddenly barren after the loss of Lionel Messi.
This summer has been the worst moment for the Blaugrana in terms of transfers. They had to lose two of their best strikers; Messi and Antoine Griezmann, and can only rely on Sergio Aguero, Luuk de Jong and Memphis Depay who are prone to injury. Moreover, no matter how good he is, Depay still cannot touch the level of La Pulga’s game.
Now, Barcelona can only focus on developing a number of young stars, namely Pedri, Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig, all three of whom are ready to be played more often. But now, Barca are reportedly interested in signing Sterling who is considered to be able to spark a better life at the Blaugrana, if they sign him.
Here is a potential Barca starting XI if Sterling is successfully brought to Spain, as reported by Express:
Goalkeeper: Marc-Andre ter Stegen
This German player is the only Barca player who consistently plays every weekend. If it weren’t for Manuel Neuer’s cool performance, Ter Stegen might have become Die Mannschaft’s number one goalkeeper. And, he will also continue to be Barca’s number one player throughout his career in the Catalan team.
Defenders: Sergino Dest, Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia, Jordi Alba
The less said about Barcelona’s defence, the better.
It’s true, Pique and Alba are playing pretty well for Barca, but at their age of 34 and 32 respectively they need to have backing.
Dest brought youth into the Barca squad, but with subpar performances, he is still not convincing. While the other two defenders; Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti, seem to have to leave so the club can bring in world-class defenders.
Midfielders: Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Sergio Busquets
Once again, the depth of the squad in Barcelona’s midfield is considered terrible. Veteran player Busquets was a great leader ahead of the young De Jong and Pedri.
However, with only Puig and Roberto being the only players to challenge the trio, it must have been an easy decision for Ronald Koeman.
Forwards: Ousmane Dembele, Raheem Sterling, Memphis Depay
Barca have some players in this line, but not many who are really talented. The starting three were all very good players, while Aguero and Fati could be classed as players who were unlucky to be missed.
But with forwards who are nowhere near Barcelona’s standards, such as Luuk De Jong, Martin Braithwaite and the forgotten Brazilian Philippe Coutinho, there are still plenty of useless players to be moved.
