Djokovic Putuskan untuk Mundur dari Indian Wells

1NEWS, The world’s number one tennis player, Novak Djokovic decided to withdraw from one of the biggest tournaments in the world, Indian Wells 2021. The decision to withdraw the Serbian player was announced by the organizers of the tournament which was held in California.

The Indian Wells or BNP Paribas Open 2021 was originally scheduled to take place on March 10-21, 2021. However, the still widespread outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world has forced the holding of the ATP Tour Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tournaments to be postponed to October 4-17 2021.

“We are disappointed that Novak will not be able to join us at the BNP Paribas Open this fall,” said Indian Wells tournament director Tommy Haas in a statement.

“We look forward to seeing him return at Tennis Paradise next March to compete for a record-breaking sixth title in the desert.”

It is not yet known for sure what caused Djokovic to withdraw from Indian Wells 2021. However, through his Twitter social media account, the owner of the 20 grand slam titles expressed his apology for not being able to participate in the tournament starting next week.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t see my fans at Indian Wells and play in the desert, my favorite place to play. I look forward to seeing you next year!” said Djokovic.

Djokovic has already secured his place in the November-end ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. The Serbian is now trying to become the first player to finish the season as world number one seven times.

Besides Djokovic, a number of big names are known to have decided to withdraw from the tournament in California. Indian Wells 2019 champion Dominic Thiem has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to an injury.

From the women’s sector, there is Naomi Osaka who has decided to withdraw since last week, shortly after she said she would take a short break from the tennis world after being defeated by Leyah Fernandez in the third round of the 2021 United States (US) Open tournament.[]
