Kapanseru.com – Fights between inmates aka prisoners are unavoidable. In fact, the following cases involved hundreds of inmates and killed nearly half of them.
This horrific incident occurred in the Litoral Penitentiary (Lapas), Guayaquil City, Ecuador.
Reported by jabar.inews.id, the fight involved two groups or gangs of inmates who underwent training in the prison. The two rival gangs are Los Lobos and Los Choneros, a group believed to be under the auspices of a drug cartel in Mexico.
The fights did not only involve bare hands, but firearms and explosives, the sound of which could be heard in several pavilions before officers finally arrested the inmates.
Following the incident, the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso announced the number of deaths caused by clashes between prisoners. There were at least 116 prisoners who died, of which 8 of them died in a very sad condition, their heads were cut off.
While 80 other inmates were injured.
“Regrettably, prisons are being turned into places of power struggle by criminal gangs,” said Guillermo Lasso.
Cautious to prevent this incident from happening again, Guillermo Lasso deployed police and soldiers to guard the prison.
On the other hand, the former president of the National Rehabilitation Council of Ecuador, Ledy Zuniga, said that the massacre or clashes in the Litoral Prison were the most severe and tragic events in history.
“In the history of the country, there has never been an incident similar or similar to this,” he said.
