1NEWS – Initially, Donny van de Beek may have thought that his move to Manchester United would end beautifully. Unfortunately, instead of being a beautiful dream, moving to Old Trafford became a nightmare for the former Ajax midfielder. Rarely played, Van de Beek is also rumored to have asked United to immediately sell him.
Low contribution at Old Trafford
2018 was a pretty good year for AFC Ajax where at that time, they were able to penetrate the Champions League semifinals. Unfortunately, some of the Ajax players of that era have now left the Dutch club. One of them is Donny van de Beek who chose to move to England, to be exact to Manchester United.
Manchester United at that time was hunting for a number of players to increase the strength of their team, and the name Donny van de Beek finally on the radar. On 30 August, Van de Beek completed his move to the Old Trafford club. He came with the hope of becoming a key United player in the next few seasons.
Unfortunately, Van de Beek’s dream seems to have turned into a nightmare. Many people say that the purchase of Van de Beek is a useless purchase for United. How not, since joining the Red Devils, the Dutch player has not contributed much to his new team.
In his first season with the Red Devils, Van de Beek recorded 36 matches in all competitions. However, from those 36 appearances, Van de Beek was recorded only playing as a starter four times. This season, Van de Beek has made three appearances across all competitions.
Ask to Leave
This lack of playing time is what makes Van de Beek increasingly uncomfortable at Old Trafford. Therefore, Fichajes revealed that currently, Van de Beek has asked United to release him in the upcoming transfer window. Whether on loan to another club, or sold, most importantly, Van de Beek wants to play outside United.
It should be noted that Van de Beek’s attempt to leave was not the first time. In the summer transfer yesterday, the midfielder with a Dutch passport is known to have asked United to release him to another club. However, according to the agent’s narrative, United are trying to block Van de Beek’s exit from Old Trafford.
Milan Forward First
As a potential player, Van de Beek has certainly attracted a lot of attention from giant clubs, including Serie A giants AC Milan. Fichajes said that the Rossoneri were the first European giants to ask about Van de Beek’s situation at the club Manchester United. The Rossoneri are known to need additional strength in the midfield sector, and Van de Beek is on their radar.
According to the same source, Milan is known to be launching an offer to borrow Van de Beek, with an option to buy at the end of the loan period. Even though Milan was the first club to come forward to sign Van de Beek, that doesn’t mean they don’t have opponents. Over time, maybe there will be other giant clubs who are also interested in the midfielder.
No Problem with Solskjær
United coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjær himself once denied that he had frozen Van de Beek from the squad. According to him, what happened to Van de Beek so far is a natural thing. Solskjær added that if Van de Beek wanted to appear more often, then he would have to train harder.
“He (Van de Beek) knows that he is not sidelined.” Solskjær said, citing the Guardian page. “This is Manchester United, and if a player doesn’t play, he’s always in the headlines. Every week, there must be something like that, so I don’t have any problem with Donny.”
