Having been left behind twice, Persipura Jayapura finally forced Madura United to settle for a 2-2 draw at Wibawa Mukti Stadium, Cikarang, in the sixth matchday of Liga 1 2021/22, Sunday (3/10) afternoon WIB.

This draw did not change the position of Persipura in the 14th place of the standings after collecting five points. Meanwhile Madura United climbed one ladder to tenth position after collecting seven points.

Madura United and Persipura played open games since the kick-off whistle was blown by the referee. Both teams attacked each other in order to outperform their respective opponents in the early minutes.

Madura United, which was the host, managed to open the scoring first when the game entered the 11th minute. Hugo Gomes ‘Jaja’ Silva’s free kick was greeted by Rafael Silva’s header without being prevented by goalkeeper Fitrul Dwi Rustapa.

Persipura tried to get up to equalize. However, their efforts hit Madura United’s solid defense, so they did not pose much of a threat.

Towards the end of the first half, Rafael Silva actually succeeded in breaking into Persipura’s goal, but the referee annulled it, because the player with number 9 was considered the first to hang out. The score 1-0 to Madura United’s advantage closed the first half.

The fight between Madura United and Persipura took place more interestingly in the second half. Persipura who changed the scoreboard played aggressively by pressing the Madura United defense.

Persipura’s efforts to equalize finally paid off in the 55th minute. John Pahabol’s mature pass from the left side of the attack was completed by Riky Kayame with his left foot kick which was lodged in the right corner of the Madura United goal.

But Persipura’s joy did not last long. Three minutes later, Madura United again beat Mutiara Hitam when David Laly completed Jaja’s through ball to break into Fitrul’s goal.

The match became more interesting after David Laly’s goal. Persipura tried their luck in the 61st minute through Henrique Motta’s hard kick from outside the penalty box, but Muhammad Ridho denied it. Five minutes later, it was Fitrul’s turn to deny Silvio Escobar’s header.

The duet of Kayame and Pahabol became a scourge for the Persipura defense, finally being able to equalize in the 67th minute. This time Kayame gave Pahabol a pass to break into Ridho’s goal, thus changing the position to 2-2.

This draw score made both teams more eager to overcome their respective opponent’s games. Despite getting a number of opportunities, neither Madura United nor Persipura managed to change the scoreboard, and the 2-2 position closed the match.
