Rasulullah SAW recited istighfar at least 70 times in one day, even though his sins have been completely forgiven by Allah SWT.

Therefore, istighfar is recommended to be read every day, because in addition to removing sins, istighfar also has many other virtues. What are the benefits of reading istighfar?

1. The virtue of Istighfar is getting forgiveness

Whoever sincerely asks Allah to forgive him for all the sins he has committed, both small and large sins, then he will get His forgiveness.

Verily, Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. According to the hadith, Allah will forgive as many and as big as any sins, even if they are as high as the clouds in the sky or as much as the foam in the ocean.

2. Opening the Door of Sustenance

It is written in the Qur’an, that Allah opens the door of sustenance for people who read a lot of istighfar. Allah will provide prosperity and ease of sustenance for those who are istighfar.

لْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا انَ ارًا . لِ السَّمَاءَ لَيْكُمْ ارًا

“… and increase your wealth and your children, and provide for you gardens and provide (in it) rivers for you.” (Surah Noah: 12)

3. The virtue of Istighfar is to get lucky

Quoting from the hadith narrated by Ibn Majah, Muslims who always read the thayyibah sentence for istighfar will get a lot of luck, especially luck in the hereafter.

لِمَنْ اسْتِغْفَارًا ا

“Fortunate is the person in whose record of deeds there is a lot of istighfar.” (Narrated by Ibn Majah)

4. Given Strength

In QS. Hud verse 52, people who do istighfar will be given strength by Allah SWT. Therefore, if you feel weak and face difficulties, then you should increase the reading of istighfar.

ا اسْتَغْفِرُوا ا لَيْهِ لِ السَّمَاءَ لَيْكُمْ ارًا لَى لَا لَّوْا

“And (he said): ‘O my people, ask forgiveness from your Lord and repent to Him, He will surely send down a very heavy rain on you, and He will add strength to your strength, and do not turn away in sin.”

5. The virtue of Istighfar is to receive God’s grace

In Surah An-Naml verse 46, it is explained that a person who does a lot of istighfar will be blessed by Allah SWT, like the prayer of the Prophet Salih AS.

الَ اقَوْمِ لِمَ لُونَ السَّيِّئَةِ لَ الْحَسَنَةِ لَوْلَا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ

He (Salih) said, “O my people, why do you ask for an evil before good? Why don’t you ask Allah for forgiveness so that you may receive mercy?” (Surat an-Naml: 46)
