Arsenal are starting to put together a list of transfer targets for the upcoming transfer window as they prepare to part ways with Alexandre Lacazette, whose contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in the summer of 2022.
Indeed, Alexandre Lacazette has so far not received a new contract offer even though his contract will expire at the end of this season, and it is with him earning a high fee of IDR 3 billion per week that makes Arsenal start thinking about releasing him from the club’s salary burden.
There is a possibility that The Gunners could sell him in the January transfer window rather than lose him as a free agent at the end of the season, with several clubs having been linked with interest in the 30-year-old striker.
But manager Mikel Arteta will only let that happen if he is able to sign another striker to act as deputy captain for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and he has now targeted the England attacking duo as potential replacements.
According to reports sunsports, Arsenal have now made England international duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins their top two transfer targets, but the issue of price may be an obstacle.
Both Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) are said to have contracts that still run until the summer of 2025, so they are unlikely to be available cheaply, let alone their status as English players.
The only good news is that Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is reportedly ready to back Mikel Arteta with further recruiting funds for the established goalscorer to challenge and eventually replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Owner The Gunners have already shown their support for the Spanish tactician to rebuild the club’s glory with an extraordinary investment of IDR 2.9 Trillion over the last summer to bring up to six new players into the squad.
