Persib Bandung coach, Robert Alberts, explained the reason for keeping the duo of Marc Klok and Mohammed Rashid in midfield throughout the first series of BRI Liga 1 2021/2022.
According to him, these two midfielders always display a good game so as to provide a sense of security in the midfield. The proof, Maung Bandung unbeaten from six matches.
For six matches, Persib Bandung recorded two wins and four draws. The score brought Maung Bandung to fifth place in the BRI Liga 1 standings with 10 points.
“It’s a formidable combination and the result proves we haven’t lost. But, we also understand that we have to win the game,” said Robert recently.
“And to make that happen we have to field the best team from the available players,” added the Dutch Persib Bandung coach.
In other positions, Robert often rotates players. Like the goalkeeper position that was originally occupied by Muhammad Natshir, but the last few matches Persib have relied on Teja Paku Alam.
In the match against PSM Makassar, Saturday (2/10/2021), Robert rotated the back line. This had to be done because Nick Kuipers and Victor Igbonefo were absent.
Nick Kuipers is absent due to a one-time ban after pocketing three yellow cards. Meanwhile, Victor Igbonefo received a call from the Indonesian national team to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup Qualification play-off.
As a result, the position was entrusted to Achmad Jufriyanto and Supardi Nasir. Robert thinks the performance of these two players is quite good in maintaining the heart of the team’s defense
“Supardi and Jupe are able to fill it, it’s also good they can show the depth of the team and this is an opportunity for other players to appear,” he explained.
Even so, the Persib midfield will certainly experience changes in the next match. Because, Marc Klok got three yellow cards accumulated.
“Next week too you will see new combinations because Klok has to be out and that’s what we have, we have team depth in every department,” he explained.
