The club from the Italian capital, AS Roma has reportedly started talks to bring in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria whose contract expires in 2022.
Despite having made many purchases in the summer transfer window, AS Roma still seems not to be satisfied with their squad. Jose Mourinho’s team is reportedly still trying to strengthen their midfield by targeting a retainer from Borussia Monchengladbach, Denis Zakaria.
According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Roma are not messing with their plans to get Zakaria, this is proven by the initial approach that the I Giallorossi have started. Mourinho’s team hope to be able to convince the player to sign a pre-contract in January, because according to existing rules players with six months remaining on their contract can negotiate with any club.
Roma’s initial plan for now is to sign Zakaria on a free transfer after his tenure with his current club ends in June 2022. However, I Giallorossi will not rule out directly bringing the 24-year-old player in the winter transfer window as long as they can reach an agreement with Monchengladbach.
But before thinking too far, Roma at this time must first be able to reach an agreement with Zakaria before deciding whether to try to bring him directly in January or wait until next season. Mourinho himself had really hoped that the Giallorossi could bring in a new midfielder since the summer transfer window but they failed to make it happen.
The team from the Italian capital was reportedly very close to bringing Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka. Unfortunately, although it was reported that they had reached an agreement personally, Roma never managed to reach an agreement with the Gunners, so the London team ended up extending Xhaka’s contract.
Not wanting to repeat a similar mistake, Roma seems to be very focused on being able to secure the signature of Zakaria. The competition to bring the player can reportedly come from another Serie A team, Atalanta.
