UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said that everyone can smell the passion of football in Italy and they have been the perfect hosts so far in the semifinals of the UEFA Nations League.
Italy hosts the knockout stages of the UEFA Nations League, with the first semi-final starting on Thursday (7/10) WIB between the hosts and Spain, followed by a day later between Belgium and France.
“First of all, it’s a great semi-final, it’s a semi-final of the Euros. Two great teams, the European champions and the young Spanish team, we can expect a fantastic game,” Aleksander Ceferin told RAI Sport.
The first semifinal match was finally won by Spain over 10 Italian players, after Ferran Torres’ opening two goals in the second half were successfully answered by an impressive solo effort by Federico Chiesa which was then completed by Lorenzo Pellegrini at the end of the second half.
Aleksander Ceferin came to Italy after taking care of Euro 2024 preparations in Germany who have just released their new logo for the European Championship in three years to come, and the UEFA president has high regard for the enthusiasm in Pizza country for football.
“I just told my team-mates today when we flew in from Germany that you can smell the passion of football in Italy,” he added. “The Italian spirit is great and the Italian Federation is hosting this tournament with us. For now, it’s perfect.”
The next match in the UEFA Nations League is the second semifinal between Belgium vs France at Juventus Stadium on Friday (8/10) early morning WIB. The match for third place will be held at the same place on Sunday (10/10) evening WIB, followed by the final match on Monday (11/10) early morning WIB at the San Siro.
