The young Persis Solo striker, Ahmad Athallah Araihan, is determined to enter the national team squad that will compete in the U-20 World Cup in 2023.
“Of course I want to be included in the U-20 World Cup squad later,” said Ahmad Athallah in a press conference after he defended the U-20 Indonesia All Star squad against U-18 Bali United at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), North Jakarta, Friday.
In order to meet this target, the 17-year-old footballer promised to show maximum performance both in training and in matches with his club.
However, for now, Ahmad Athallah wants to show his best ability while competing in the 2021 International Youth Championship (IYC), where he strengthens the U-20 Indonesia All Star team.
“Hopefully I can attract the attention of Shin Tae-yong (national team coach-ed) so that he can appear in the U-20 World Cup,” said the Ragunan SKO dropout.
Ahmad Athallah Araihan had become the backbone of the Indonesian U-16 national team.
He helped bring the squad nicknamed “Garuda Asia” to qualify for the 2020 AFC U-16 Asian Cup by becoming the second best in Group G of the qualifying phase, behind China.
In the 2020 U-16 Asian Cup Qualification, Ahmad Athallah became the third top scorer with six goals. Unfortunately, Indonesia failed to appear in the 2020 U-16 Asian Cup finals because the tournament was canceled due to the world’s upheaval in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Athallah also helped Indonesia come out as third place in the 2019 AFF U-15 Cup.
Ahmad Athallah himself has been actively participating in various tournaments since he was under 14 years old and has been named the best player and top scorer several times.
His brilliant performances made Athallah briefly linked with several European clubs, but he finally joined Persis Solo at the end of 2021.
At IYC 2021, Athallah helped the U-20 All Star Indonesia team to be at the top of the standings with four points from two matches. He and his colleagues even had time to draw Barcelona U-18 without a goal. Most recently, Friday (15/4), they beat U-18 Bali United with a score of 3-0.
While Bali United are at the bottom of the standings because they have always lost two matches. On Wednesday (13/4), they were defeated by Atlético Madrid’s U-18s 0-5.
However, the situation could change because Atletico Madrid and Barcelona will only compete on Friday (15/4) night, starting at 21.30 WIB to be exact.
