Erik Ten Hag looks set to join Manchester United at the end of this season.
Crazy Ball – Ajax Director of Football Gerry Hamstra confirmed that manager Erik ten Hag has yet to sign a new contract at the club, amid interest from Manchester United for his services at the end of the season.
The Athletic reported this week that the Dutch tactician had reached an agreement to become the new permanent manager for Red Devil after a very successful five-year spell at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Even previous reports stated that the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the new boss at Old Trafford to replace Ralf Rangnick will be made after the KNVB Cup final between Ajax Amsterdam vs PSV Eindhoven, when he managed to beat the competition with PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Now de Godenzonen’s newly appointed director Gerry Hamstra, who replaced Marc Overmars following the former Arsenal winger’s controversial departure in February, was asked about their manager’s future before their 2-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the KNVB Cup final by ESPN Netherlands.
Gerry Hamstra claims the club have tried everything to keep the tactician at the club, including by increasing his salary, but knows that the final decision will lie with the 52-year-old amid interest from Manchester United.
He said, “I can give a very concise explanation of that. We have done everything we can and are doing everything we can to keep him at the club. Contract extension offered? Yes. More money? Everything that goes with it, without going into detail.”
“Erik can finally decide his own future, he’s old and wise enough for that. We have two scenarios. We really hope he stays, it makes sense that there is interest in him. And if he doesn’t stay, we have to be ready for the second scenario.”
