PSSI denied the news stating that Persipura Jayapura had canceled their relegation to League 2. The information was called a hoax.

The statement was delivered directly by the General Chairperson of PSSI Mochamad Irawan following the news of Persipura’s return to League 1 status.

“It’s not true (the news of Persipura canceling relegation). Please straighten it out,” said Iriawan to detikSport, Monday (18/4/2022).

This news may appear along with the lawsuit against PSSI, Barito Putra, Persib Bandung, and player David da Silva, at the Central Jakarta District Court, on April 14.

The lawsuit filed by Emilianus Tikuk, Yan Piet Sada, Yulianus Dwaa, and Paul Finsen Mayor with case number 211/Pdt.G/2022/PN Jkt. Pst, one of them asked the proud club of the plaintiffs Persipura Jayapura to cancel relegation and remain as a participant in league I.

In addition, declaring the Persib vs Barito Putera match as ‘elephant football’ aka the outcome was regulated which violated the principle of fair play and was an unlawful act that greatly harmed the plaintiffs.

This was later confirmed by the appearance of news from one of the media with the title BREAKINGNEWS Persipura Cancels Degradation, Persib vs Barito Putera Match Repeated.

PSSI firmly denied the news. “This is fake news (hoax). How the editor can pass news that is not clear from where the source. That news is made based on his own opinion and does not heed the principles of journalism. We deeply regret this news,” said PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi separately.

As is known in the 2021-2022 League 1 competition, Persipura were relegated to Liga 2 2022-2023 along with Persiraja Banda Aceh and Persela Lamongan. Meanwhile, the League 2 teams that were promoted to League 1 were Persis Solo, Rans Cilegon FC, and Dewa United.

“So the team that was relegated to League 2 and which League 2 team was promoted to League 1 was already final based on the official competition held by PSSI and PT Liga Indonesia Baru (PT LIB),” said Yunus.
