“Rodrygo’s comments follow his fine form in the last two games”

1NEWS – Rodrygo took the lead in Real Madrid’s counter-attack for the second time in as many days before he declared that only Real Madrid could make such a change.

Madrid ended a stunning week by beating title-chasing rivals Sevilla 3-2 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and are now 15 points clear at the top of the table, although Barcelona still have games to play on Monday.

Los Blancos were two goals down at half-time before Rodrygo responded five minutes after the start of the second half, then late goals from Nacho and Karim Benzema completed a stunning comeback.

That revival also came in the previous game following a 3-2 loss to Chelsea, which was enough to secure a place in the Champions League.

Madrid struggled to come back from when they trailed the reigning European champions 3-0, again through Rodrygo’s goal which forced both teams into stoppage time and Benzema’s decisive header in the 5-4 aggregate success.

Rodrygo has scored in two consecutive games for the first time in his Madrid career and could hardly have done it at a better time.

The first-half substitute, who also assisted Benzema’s winner at Sevilla, said “We leave with a great feeling, we always fought until the end.”

“We knew it was going to be a very difficult game, but I’m happy to be able to play in the second half, score goals and provide assists to help my team.”

“We have to really respect these three points because nobody else has won here, but we did it. Those three points have brought us closer to our goal, which is to win LaLiga.”

“The coach told us to play a little bit more because we struggled in the first half and they were better than us.”

“These are things only Real Madrid can do. I am very proud to be part of this team and to be involved in this comeback.”

It was the first time Madrid had won in LaLiga having trailed by two goals since another 3-2 win over Villarreal in February 2017.

Sevilla come into the game unbeaten at home in the league this season, while this is the first time they have lost at home in the competition after taking a first-half lead since a 4-2 loss at the hands of Barcelona in February 2019.

In fact, they haven’t lost anywhere after taking a first-half lead since losing 2-1 to Athletic Bilbao in October 2020.
