Paramount Pictures has released a new promo clip Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise reprising one of his most iconic roles. The clip takes fans into a grueling three-month pilot training module that Cruise orchestrated to ensure a high level of realism for the film. The film is slated to hit theaters on May 27.
In the nearly three-minute video, Cruise and the other stars talk about the rewarding experience of flying a fighter jet, and how it prepared them for the film. Cruise, who has a reputation for being active on set, said capturing practical aerial footage was a top priority.
The video shows footage of the actors experiencing the strong force of gravity while they are inside the state-of-the-art jet. However, of course not limited to adventures in the air. So, they also have to undergo demanding underwater training in addition to fighter pilot training. And somewhat unsurprisingly, it was Cruise too who helped design training modules for his co-stars. And after that, they graduated to the F-18. Actors also had to learn how to operate the camera, director Joseph Kosinski revealed, because they basically had to direct themselves on the jet. Cruise also said, “I really have to teach them cinematography and lighting so they understand what’s going to look good on camera.”
Directed by Joseph Kosinski — who had collaborated with Cruise on the film Oblivion, Top Gun: Maverick also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, Charles Parnell, Danny Ramirez, Manny Jacinto, Bashir Salahuddin, Jay Ellis, Jake Picking, Raymond Lee, and Jean Louisa Kelly. The screenplay was written by Ehren Kruger and Eric Warren Singer with Christopher McQuarrie, with a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks based on characters created by Jim Cash & Jack Epps, Jr.
Here’s the official synopsis:

Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller) or “Rooster”, son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer, Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”. Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice of those who will carry it out.”
