A Facebook user shared a video showing Alfamart collapsing in Gambut District, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. The building is almost level with the ground. The incident took place on Monday (4/18/2022) at approximately 17.15 WITA.
Locals flocked to the scene. The authorities and several residents were also seen helping people trapped under the Alfamart rubble. According to the testimony of people who were at the scene, the Alfamart building was seen cracked for about 10 seconds before finally collapsing.
Resulted in 3 deaths
According to the Head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol. Mochamad Rifa’i, there were around 16 people inside the building when the incident took place. The collapse of Alfamart resulted in 6 employees and 10 people who were shopping trapped in the rubble. During the first rescue, 8 people were rescued. While other victims are still being evacuated until Monday night.
The injured victim was taken to the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital KCG for treatment. Meanwhile, there was one other victim who was rushed to the ER Ciputra Kertak Hanyar Hospital. Of the victims who were successfully evacuated, there were 3 people who died. Alfamart, represented by Corporate Affairs Director Alfamart Solihin, expressed his condolences. Alfamart will also cover medical expenses and compensation for victims.
The age of the building is 20 years
Based on the statements of local residents, the age of the collapsed Alfamart building is approximately 20 years. The Surabaya branch of the Police Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) team at the East Java Regional Police was also brought in by the South Kalimantan Regional Police. They are tasked with examining the cause of the collapse of the Alfamart building.
According to the South Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Pol Rikwanto, Alfamart is renting a building that is indeed old. It is also known that Alfamart’s location is in a swamp area so that it was once submerged in water. In addition, the building has also been affected by flooding. Until now, the condition of the building is suspected as the cause of the collapse of Alfamart.
