Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the 2022 Solo Mayor’s Cup soccer tournament will be held at the Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java, after Eid. After being delayed from June 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this tournament will be held again around June.

“The Solo Mayor’s Cup will be held again before League 1 is held,” said Gibran in Solo, Tuesday (19/4/2022).

He asked for clarity on the implementation of the tournament and directly asked the owner of the Persis Solo Team, Kaesang Pangarep. “Anyway, after Eid and before League 1 was rolled out. However, for more details, just ask Kaesang,” said the eldest son of President Joko Widodo.

The participants of the Solo Mayor’s Cup have not changed while still involving eight teams, namely Arema FC, Persib Bandung, Bhayangkara FC and Bali United, Rans Cilegon, PSG Pati or Bekasi FC, Sriwijaya FC, and host Persis Solo. Previously, Gibran wanted to hold this tournament in June 2021, but it was postponed due to the level 3 Covid-19 pandemic, which was later confirmed by the Central Java Police. At that time, the Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Kombes Pol. Iqbal Alqudusy, confirmed the cancellation of the tournament, which was originally scheduled to be held from June 29 to July 4, 2021.
