Benzema squandered two penalties against Osasuna
1NEWS – Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti continues to support Karim Benzema after missing two penalties in Los Blancos’ 3-1 win over Osasuna on Thursday (21/4/22).
Ante Budimir equalized after David Alaba’s opener in the 12th minute before Marco Asensio restored Madrid’s lead at El Sadar.
Meanwhile, Benzema was unlucky in this match. The reason, twice penalrinya kicks were thwarted by Sergio Herrera. The French star’s poor record makes him the first player to miss two penalties in a LaLiga match since Raul Tamudo against Real Betis in April 2006.
Lucas Vazquez sealed the win for Real Madrid in added time. After the match, Ancelotti was quick to defend and support Benzema, who now leads the LaLiga scoring charts with 25 goals so far.
“Penalties are missed by those who took them, it won’t affect Benzema. Karim played a super game, he will score in the next game,” he said.
Alaba limped off at half-time and was then withdrawn at half-time, but Ancelotti does not appear to be concerned about the centre-back’s injury.

“We are optimistic about Alaba. We pulled it out as a precaution,” the Italian added.
Madrid will now turn their focus to their Champions League semi-final first leg at Manchester City on Tuesday (27/4/22), and Ancelotti insists his focus is only on that game and not securing the league title.
“The title? We plan to prepare well for the next game, which is the Champions League semi-final,” he continued.
“Then let’s see what happens. We have to win. We are focused on the semi-final and I think we will arrive in good form.”
