ACCURATE.CO, The coach of the Timor Leste U-23 National Team, Fabio Maciel da Silva, complained about the tight schedule that his team played at the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games. It made him doubt The Rising Sun -the nickname of Timor Leste- can earn points in Group A, including against the Indonesian U-23 national team.

Timor Leste has currently played two matches at the 2021 SEA Games. In those two matches, they always lost, namely when they were crushed by the Philippines 0-4 and lost dramatically 2-3 to Myanmar. Furthermore, Mauzinho Barreto and colleagues will play their third match against the U-23 National Team on Tuesday (10/5).

The coach who is fondly called Fabio Magrao admits that his team’s current condition is far from ideal. Because, Timor Leste competes every two days. That is, they only have a day off from one game to another.

“Before I became a coach, I was a player. In the previous press conference, I complained about the intensity of competition every two days at the SEA Games and many colleagues also agreed,” said Fabio after the match against Myanmar, Sunday (8/5), as quoted from Zing News.

“I’m sure the schedule is the same. This leaves Timor Leste U-23 no chance to get points.”

The situation is reversed with the U-23 Indonesian National Team, which has three days of rest before the match against Timor Leste. Squad young Garuda -the nickname of the U-23 National Team- started its struggle in Group A of the 2021 SEA Games by losing 3-0 to the host Vietnam on 6 May.

“We only have one day off before the game against Myanmar U-23, the next match is against Indonesia U-23 as well. It’s impossible to stay healthy and play well in the SEA Games,” he explained.

“I sincerely suggested from the final round of the AFF U-23 Cup earlier this year, that the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) should rethink, pay more attention to the schedule.”

Currently, Timor Leste must be sincere in being in the last position aka caretaker of group A with zero points with a difference of minus five points. While the U-23 Indonesian National Team is one rank above it with the same number of points, but the goal difference is only minus three and pocketed one more game.

The top position in Group A is occupied by the Philippines with four points, the same as hosts Vietnam in second. Myanmar is in third place.[]
