“Hopefully things will get better in the future.”

1NEWS – The coach of the Indonesian U-23 National Team, Shin Tae-yong admitted that he was not satisfied with the performance of the Garuda Muda squad when they beat Timor Leste in the continued match of Group A of the men’s soccer at the SEA Games 2021, Tuesday (10/5) night WIB
at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho.

In that match, Egy Maulana Vikri won with a convincing score.

“We did win by a score of 4-1 but I am not satisfied,” said Shin after the match, quoted from PSSI’s statement.

The tactician from South Korea still hopes that the Garuda Muda squad can boost the quality of their game in the final two matches of Group A.

Indonesia itself needs a win in the third matchday against the Philippines, Friday (13/5) and the closing match against Myanmar, Sunday (15/5), this must be done to qualify for the 2021 SEA Games semifinals.

“We have to work hard to improve performance,” said Shin.

Shin admitted that his team was still in flux and according to him one of the reasons for the unstable quality of the Garuda Muda squad was that the majority of the players had not experienced competitive matches for a long time after the 2021-2022 BRI Liga 1 Indonesia was completed in March 2022.

“It makes our players rest for about two months (before finally appearing at the SEA Games 2021-ed). Their performance has decreased slightly,” said Shin.

Apart from that, Indonesia’s victory over Timor Leste is a valuable asset. The four goals for the national team were scored by Egy Maulana Vikri, then Witan Sulaeman and Fachruddin Aryanto scored two goals. Meanwhile Timor Leste replied to a goal through Mouzonho de Lima.
