The United States claims Russia abducted thousands of Ukrainians for processing in filtration camps Thursday (12/5).
“Russian forces have sent at least several thousand Ukrainians for processing at ‘filtration centres’, and evacuated at least tens of thousands more to Russia or Russian-controlled territory,” said US Ambassador to the Organization for European Security and Cooperation (OSCE) Michael Carpenter. Thursday (12/5).
“Many eyewitnesses said that the ‘screening’ activities included beating and torture of individuals to find out if they were involved with the Ukrainian government,” he continued.
Carpenter said thousands of ‘kidnapped’ residents came from Mariupol, a port city now controlled by Russia.
In addition, Carpenter said that many abducted people fear they will be taken to Donetsk.
