NTB Karateka athlete Ahmad Zigi Zaresta Yuda won gold for Indonesia at the Sea Games 2021 Vietnam, Wednesday (18/5).
Zigi won gold in the individual karate sport, said the man, adding to Indonesia’s medal coffers at the Vietnam SEA Games. The athlete from Lingsar, West Lombok, became the first Indonesian athlete to win a gold medal in karate.

Zigi himself became Indonesia’s first gold medal contributor from the 2021 SEA Games karate sport. Apart from getting a gold medal from Zigi, Indonesian karate also managed to donate two bronze medals.

Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) NTB Province, Mori Hanafi expressed his appreciation and pride for the sons of the region. In addition, he also hopes that at a young age, Zigi can win a gold medal at the upcoming Olympics.

“We congratulate Zigi, it’s amazing. He’s still young, he can still participate in the Olympics, hopefully he can also get gold there,” said Mori, Thursday (19/5).

Apart from Zigi, Ari Saputra also won a gold medal in the 60 kg kumite number after defeating the vice host of Vietnam, Van Hien Vo. Besides winning two golds, the Indonesian Karate team on the first day of the Vietnam SEA Games match also won two silver medals for Devina Dea (62 kg kumite) and Tebing Hutapea (67 kg kumite), and two bronzes from Sharon Ririheha (50 kg kumite). and Krisda Putri Aprilia (words for women).

This series of achievements brought Indonesia back to fourth place with 35 gold, 45 silver and 44 bronze, and shifted Singapore to fifth place with 34 gold, 35 silver and 41 bronze.

In addition, at the SEA Games this time, Indonesia is targeting three gold medals for karate.
