“Congratulations on your achievements Chelsie Monica Ignesias Sihite and Ummi Fisabilillah!”

1NEWS – WIM Chelsie Monica Ignesias Sihite and WIM Ummi Fisabilillah presented the last gold medal for Indonesia from the chess branch SEA Games 2021 after being the best in the women’s team lightning chess event which took place at the Quang Ninh Exhibition Center, Vietnam, Saturday (21/05/2022).

Chelsie and Ummi’s certainty of winning gold was determined in the fourth or final round when they added 1.5 points with a convincing victory over Malaysia.

One point was contributed by Ummi who won over WIM Puteri Munajjah Az-Zahraa Azhar and an additional 0.5 points from Chelsie’s draw with WFM Puteri Rifqah Fahada Azhar.

With the addition of 1.5 points, the total points collected by the Indonesian women’s duo became 6.0 out of 4 rounds. They are one point ahead of the Philippines team who had to settle for a silver medal.

The key to Ummi and Chelsie’s success in winning gold medals occurred in the first and second rounds when they faced the two toughest rivals, namely the Philippines and Vietnam.

In the first round against the Philippines’ top seed, Ummi played well so she could take points thanks to her victory over WFM Shania Mae Mendoza.

Ummi’s victory made Indonesia and the Philippines score 1-1 after Chelsie Monica Ignesias was defeated by WGM Janelle Mae Frayna.

In the second half, Ummi again played brilliantly by taking full points thanks to her victory over WGM Thi Mai Hung Nguyen. Coupled with the results of Chelsie’s draw with IM Le Thao Nguyen Pham, Indonesia is 1.5 – 0.5 ahead of the host.

In the third round, Chelsea and Ummi effortlessly crushed a weak Thai team to scoop up a perfect 2 points.

With this victory, the Indonesian chess team met the target previously set, namely 3 gold medals or one gold more than the 2019 SEA Games achievements.

Meanwhile, for Ummi, the SEA Games event in Vietnam is really a blessing. He is the only Indonesian chess player to win two gold medals. Previously, Ummi presented a gold medal in the women’s chess team with IM Medina Warda Aulia.

In the men’s lightning chess team number, GM Susanto Megaranto and IM Muhammad Lutfi Ali added one silver medal to the treasury for Indonesia, so that the overall Indonesian chess team won 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.

Gold was previously presented in standard chess numbers through WIM Dewi AA Citra and in women’s team quick chess numbers through Medina and Ummi.

Thus the three gold medals of the Indonesian contingent were presented by the women’s chess players.

The chess team has also donated 3 silvers through IM Irene Kharisma Sukandar in the women’s standard, IM Mohamad Ervan in the men’s standard, and Susanto and M. Lufti in the men’s chess team. Meanwhile, 2 bronze medals were presented by GM Susanto Megaranto in the men’s individual quick chess event and through GM Novendra Priasmoro IM Yoseph Theolifus Taher in the men’s rapid chess team.
